With the explosion of streaming technologies VoIP and High Definition TV high speed internet access has become essential. Fine if you have CAT 5 or CAT 6 cabling in place but in listed buildings, many hotels and residential environments the cost and disruption of installing cabling is prohibitive. VDSL provides a cost effective alternative, leveraging existing telephone cabling to deliver reliable high speed broadband within and between buildings.
Connectivity Options
The challenge facing hoteliers is how best to deliver high speed, cost effective and reliable connectivity with a minimum of downtime.
Cabled
Unless a major refurbishment is undertaken, installing CAT 5 or CAT 6 cabling is often prohibitively expensive and, in listed buildings, often impossible.
Wireless
Wireless Internet connectivity (WiFi) is, on the face of it, a cost effective means of delivering internet connectivity without cabling. However, the ongoing maintenance needed to avoid service disruption, security breaches and customer complaints pushes up the real cost of ownership.
VDSL (Very High Bit Rate DSL)
Unlike ADSL, VDSL can transmit high speed data over existing phone lines, delivering high speed Broadband to wherever there is a phone point. VDSL can be overlaid on existing services without the need for an additional line. Guests can then access the Broadband Internet connection using the standard Ethernet port on their laptop |
